Mariana Bekerman Dance Company was founded in 2000 by Artistic Director Mariana Bekerman. At that time, she began to make work that combined eight years of classical training in ballet and modern-jazz with New York City’s club dancing cultures: underground house and vogue, along with references to hip-hop and break dancing. Through her fusion of dance styles, Bekerman hopes to challenge standards of modern dance by appealing to both the classical aspects of the dance form while introducing styles and techniques that have been influenced by a young generation of underground dancers.
