The character ‘Poet’, on the critically acclaimed Emmy nominated HBO prison drama OZ, was created specifically for Mums by series creator Tom Fontana. In OZ, Mums, original poetic creations serve as the universal narrative voice of the prison population. In addition to his recurring HBO role, Mums has performed across the U.S. and Europe, on the Lolapalooza tours, as well as performing on the New York slam team that was the focus of the documentary Slamnation,.

	Last year Mums was prominently featured in Spike Lee’s film Bamboozled,. In 1999, he appeared in Martin Scorcese’s Bringing Out the Dead with Nicolas Cage and Ving Raimes. You will be seeing Mums this year in OZ, as well as HBO’s Behind the Scenes Look at Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam’. Mums will also be appearing on the Def Poetry Jam college tour.
