| Jack Thompson is well known as a champion of ethics and conservative moral responsibility. As an ordained Elder in the Presbyterian Church of America, as well as a holder of a government-issued license to practice law in a secular state, he faces challenges to his personal moral code everyday. Unlike most attorneys, he does not hesitate to give precedence to his biblical beliefs, and has championed many conservative causes. In 1990, he was amicus curiae in The 2 Live Crew federal obscenity trial, resulting in the first verdict in history that a sound recording, As Nasty As They Wanna Be, was obscene. Most recently Thompson took on Howard Stern and Clear Channel with the FCC. An indecency complaint he filed with the FCC against Stern resulted in Clear Channel being fined $495,000 and consequently the network permanently removed Stern from 6 of their stations. He has appeared on more than 60 national television programs and 200 college campuses in a national effort to hold accountable the entertainment industry for the harm it does to our children. In 1992, the American Civil Liberties Union named Jack Thompson one of its ten "Censors of the Year." |
